I've noticed this is an issue even with advanced students. I wanted to see if anyone has any issues with this explanation of the pronunciation rules.
Words that end in "ed" have either a "t" sound or a "d" sound in most cases i.e. cooked has a "t" sound but `'called" has a "d" sound. The "e" is reduced and should not sound like the proper name "Ed" as in "walk Ed" or "call Ed".
The only common exceptions I can think of are if the word ends in either "d" or "t" in which case you do hear, or pronounce the "e". Examples are "reminded", "deleted" etc. |
